How to Get an Obama Autograph
President Barack Obama has become a symbol of the American dream.
Regardless of politics, the fact that he is our first African-American
President makes him an important historical figure and has made the Obama autograph a popular collectible.
Many regard the President as a
symbol of hope. He has become a pop-culture icon for change and
inspiration. Because of this, many people seek to acquire a personal
connection with the President in the form of an autograph.
Auction sites such as eBay include a plethora of signed Obama
memorabilia. Among these items include Obama buttons, books, photos and more.
An Obama-autographed baseball recently sold on eBay for an asking price
of $5,000. Signed books seem to average a price of a few hundred
dollars. This demonstrates the Obama signature as having the potential for
an increase in value.
When seeking Obama autographs, make sure that the description lists it
as such and not as a pre-print. Pre-prints are copies of a signature
printed directly on the photo. In other words, the signature itself is
part of the photo. Reprints mean the same thing. Sellers offering
pre-prints are not trying to fraud you as long as they are open about
what they are offering. Just be warned these are not real Obama
signatures.
Unfortunately, there are those attempting to pass forgeries off as
authentic Obama autographs. Be on the look out for these types of
sellers. Feedback may be a good indication the validity of a seller.
Look at the history of a seller and the items they have sold. If he or she has sold other \"rare\" Obama autographs
recently, then the chances of these being legitimate are low. Also,
authentic Obama signatures should include in the description how the
autograph was obtained. Would not someone who met face to face with
President Obama be excited by the experience, especially if they
obtained an autograph?
If the description only contains a line or two
about the autograph itself, be highly suspicious that the signature may
be a forgery. Also, discount the validity of COAs, or certificates of
authenticity. A person forging an Obama signature can just as easily
forge a COA.
The only way to be 100% sure that you have an authentic Obama signature
is to obtain an autograph in person. However, this is obviously very hard to do now that he\'s under the watchful and protective eyes of the Secret Service. On the campaign trail, he was at least somewhat accessible. Not anymore.
By being cautious and choosing to purchase only items you have genuine
reason to believe are authentic, can protect yourself from forgeries. Check out the links to eBay listings of Obama autographs here on this site, proceed with a little caution and you can add a remarkable piece of history to your home or office.
